3 Awesome Reasons to Take Up Surfing

20th December, 2018

You may have been inspired to take up surfing but hesitant to take the leap of faith in booking your first surf lessons. Here are our three favourite reasons to embrace the unknown and begin your surfing journey.

1. Challenge

It takes courage to learn a new skill and transform your life. For some, the fear of failure conditions them to a life of security inside their comfort zone. However, there is nothing more damaging to your adventurous spirit than choosing a life of conformity and conservatism.  We learn and grow from new experiences and taking on challenges. Learning to surf is the perfect challenge as it is a unique goal that will require a physical and mental focus outside of your comfort zone. Surfing will help you develop a more profound and more empowered sense of self. Once you take action, you begin to believe in yourself. Knowing you had the strength to overcome challenges in the water gives you the confidence and power to face many of life’s other tests. At Solas, we help you find the courage to take on these challenges. We break down the steps involved showing you a clear path to progression so that you can improve smoothly and efficiently. We can’t tell you it will be easy, but we can tell you it will be worth it.

2. Connection

Surfing is the perfect activity to connect with nature and yourself. Every wave is unique and offers new perspectives, a chance to adapt and become flexible in carving new paths. You enter into a flow state where you are wholly immersed in the moment. You can go into the water with a million problems, but out there you won’t feel a single one. It’s a fun way to reconnect to your true self away from the roles and responsibilities of everyday life. You will feel so focused on the present that you lose track of time passing. You also lose the feeling of self-consciousness as every action involves your whole being and you’re using your new skills to the utmost.

3. Culture

One of surfing’s greatest attractions is its lifestyle and culture. Being a surfer means being part of a community, on a local and global scale. Absorbing the sunset from your board while waiting for your next wave is a special feeling only a surfer will know. Travelling to Solas Surf Sri Lanka can give you the opportunity to expand your worldview by connecting you with new people, cultures, and ideas. You will build lifelong friendships and create memories to last a lifetime. You will discover a new found respect for your environment and a new perspective on the natural world. Learning to read waves, tides and understand how the moon affects the swell will make you realise how connected you are with nature. You’ll find yourself on the same frequency with a tribe of like-minded individuals — all in the search for that perfect wave.

If you’re looking for the freedom to travel, explore, develop and feel empowered here are three reasons that will help you choose to be the HERO of your own life. At Solas Surf, we are here to help awaken your passion for adventure.
