The town of Ahangama is a sleepy fishing village with idyllic shops and cafes. The centralized location enables our guests to travel to other key tourist destinations of the South Coast in under half an hour. Here are a few of the diverse places you can explore while staying at our surf camp:
This four hundred year old UNESCO heritage site is Sri Lanka’s most important Dutch colonial monument. Its original 17th century town grid and architecture remains almost perfectly preserved, steeped in old world colonial charm and run riot with artisanal crafts and boutiques. Its talent festivals also draw artists, writers and musicians from all over the world.

While tea is usually associated with the hill country, the robust low-grown variety is cultivated in the estates of the South, many of which give personalized tours. You can surround yourself in the rolling emerald vistas of Sri Lanka’s most famous export while sipping an aromatic cup of our own Ceylon Tea.

Another hub of tourism and culturally diverse sites, this coastal city is located only a 15-minute tuk tuk ride away from our retreat. Destinations of interest range from Taprobane island to the pulsing nightlife of Tiki Clifftop to Buddhist heritage sites such as Veheragalla temple.

See the largest mammals in the world on a whale watching safari departing from Mirissa harbour, 25 minutes away from the villa. The best time to catch sight of these majestic animals in these waters is from November to April. The town is also known for its many pubs, restaurants and all-night beach parties.

Located twenty minutes away from our surf camp, this natural lake is one of Sri Lanka’s largest and most scenic, with a lush, verdant landscape. Rich in biodiversity the lake is home to a multitude of bird species and mangrove forests. The Koggala lake has many islands to which you can travel by boat, these include Temple Island, Cinnamon island and Madol Duwa (famous in Sri Lankan literature).

This popular beach destination is 25 minutes away from Solas and popular for its vibrant nightlife, especially the big Friday night party at Jungle Beach. The seafront restaurants and snorkeling opportunities also make it a popular attraction.
